The Constructors: Mary, Kristen, Caroline
Mary is from Youngstown, Ohio. She made the trek to North Carolina with her family in 2008 and she loves it here. She comes from a big family, as she is one of six children that she is very close with. Mary has been babysitting since she can remember, and that is why she is so comfortable in the field of childhood education. Mary has recently graduated with an associates degree in Early Childhood Eduation in 2013, and joined our Duke campus shortly after.
Kristen is a native of Hillsborough along with her three older siblings. At a young age she recognized her passion of caring for children. That sense of purpose has encouraged her to acquire an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education at Alamance Community College. Kristen has worked at another childcare center as a teacher assistant where she further realized the joy of working with children. In her spare time Kristen enjoys baking, crafts, and hanging out with her nephew and niece. She is ecstatic to be a part of The Little School family to continue doing what she loves best!
Caroline was drawn to The Little School because of the emphasis on the Reggio Emilia approach, natural play and nourishment. She enjoys spending her days learning and exploring alongside her young friends at The Little School. She has a deep respect for children and the amazing period of childhood. Caroline was born and raised in the Carolinas. She earned a BA in both International Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Caroline lives in Hillsborough with her partner Alexander and their energetic dog Tillie. She loves to spend time outside working in the garden, hiking, and trail running. Her other hobbies include knitting, herbal medicine, and cooking.
