Shannon: Office Manager 

Shannon has been with the Little School since it opened its doors in 2005. Originally an assistant teacher in the Middler Room, Shannon grew the roots of our infant program, serving as both the lead as well as the infant mentor teacher. Shannon has worked with children in many capacities in the past including running a home-based child care center, working with children with autism, and as an assistant teacher in another local center. Shannon is a very creative person who can tackle nearly any task from building furniture, to sewing, to wedding cake creation. In her spare time, Shannon likes to be at home with her family and her dogs.

Wendy C: Administrative Assistant 

Wendy joined The Little School when we opened the Waterstone campus in 2010. She started as a teacher working with our 1’s, 2’s and 3’s, and was an integral part of their growth and development. Wendy joined our administrative team in 2015. Wendy began working in early childhood education after graduating high school, at which time she earned her ECE credentials. After starting her own family with her husband Oscar, she became an stay at home Mom. She was able to be active in awe children’s school activities during their early years. Now her daughter, Dyani, is in college and works as a sub for TLS when she has the opportunity. Her son, Oscar, is a senior in Hight School and will be joining the TLS after-school team. Wendy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and going to the beach in her spare time.


Chris Burgess: School Chef

Chris was born near Hartford, CT.  He found his way down to North Carolina and received his BA in Biology from UNC-CH.  He has nearly 30 years of experience in food service.  Chris was the kitchen manager at the famous Flying Burrito in Chapel Hill for 8 years.  He was a line chef at Panzanella in Southern Village for 2 years and Head Chef at Town Hall Grill for 7 years, also in Southern Village.  Chris has been married to his lovely wife Erin for 10 years.  He has two sons, Oscar and Benjamin.  Chris enjoys politics, art and science exploration.


David Milton: School Chef

David grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, attending Asheville High School and later The University of North Carolina at Asheville. David worked as a line cook/su chef/host/server for restaurateur Farouk Badr at Jerusalem Garden Cafè in Asheville for over 6 years. There he got a strong launching platform for his restaurant career. Most recently, David was the chef and kitchen manager at Bona Fide Sandwich Co, honing his skill set further under chefs and proprietors Matt Fox and Dean James, while having the pleasure to work directly with several local farms and make lunch for the people of Hillsborough.

David lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He has two children (Jade and Grayson) who are his source of drive and inspiration, and also a constant source of endless smiles and indefinite head-scratching. Jade will be joining The Little School this February! David is married to his lovely wife Amber, who also is in the local food business universe; she is one of the primary crafters of Big Spoon Roasters’ famous nut butters. David is an avid runner (currently training for the Boston Marathon this April). Her is a reader and a writer, spending way too much time scrolling through chefs’ Instagram profiles searching for new ideas! 

Chef Pedro: Sous Chef

Pedro is originally from Michoacan, Mexico, although he has been a North Carolina resident for most of his life. Mr. Pedro is the lucky husband of our beloved teacher Maira. They are the very proud parents of the beautiful Yelena and Henry. Pedro can be found in the kitchen as well as in the dining room helping our children with lunches. Pedro comes from a teaching family, and loves being a part of a school. He joined TLS back in 2010, and plans on being here a very long time!


Kennan McDonald: Kitchen Special Events 

Keenan was born and raised in Jackson, MS, and spent many a hot sticky summer in the MS Delta as the granddaughter of a cotton farmer. Keenan has over a decade in farming experience, mostly in Chatham County, NC, and also managed a large Certified Organic farm at Inglewood Plantation in Alexandria, LA.

Most recently Keenan focused on sourcing & distribution from small farms across the Gulf South; Keenan helped launch the St. Roch Market and Dryades Public Market – New Orleans’ first Food Hall and Food Hub, respectively.  Working with over 40 of New Orleans’ top restaurants and chefs gave her the opportunity to champion the virtue of celebrating small farmers and good ingredients at the intersection of incredible food.

In her past lives, Keenan was an experimental music and art nerd. Living in Germany instilled a predilection for soft pretzels; six years in Chicago left a penchant for deep dish pizza and legit hotdogs; and she learned in Louisiana how to ‘Live to Eat’. Gator-wrangling was a side perk. She has a terrible fondness for cats & ducks that continues unabated (and she has threatened to bring ducks to TLS! ).  She will vociferously argue how a Southerner pronounces pecan. It’s puh-can, not pee-can for the uninitiated.

Sean Kehoe: Facilities Manager

Sean became part of the Little School family long before our doors opened. Originally from Minnesota, Sean first joined the Little School staff as a teacher and brought an amazing energy to the classroom. Always the expert fix-it guy, Sean is now in charge of all of building, repairing, painting and creating for our inside and outdoor spaces at the Waterstone Campus. His experience as a teacher, his skills as a  craftsmen, and his creative problem solving make him the perfect person for the job.
