The Bloomers



Joy has a B.A. in Education  from North Carolina Central University.  She has worked many years with children from birth to kindergarten as a nanny and a teacher.  She enjoys watching the children in her class grow and learn....they change so much every day.  Joy spends her free time with her husband and daughters, Olivia and Pennny,doing family art projects.  She also enjoys reading and playing board games.  Here at TLS Duke she plans and conducts art activities with small groups of infants and toddlers.  Take a look at the displays with documentation in the central area of the infant/toddler building to see some samples.

 Hana S.

Hana is the daughter of our wonderful mentor Laura, and has been a part of The Little School family since 2006. Hana was raised in Hillsborough. She is currently studying at Durham Technical Community College pursuing a career as a Surgical Tech. Hana has been working around children for many years as a babysitter and a substitute for The Little School. In her spare time, she enjoys fishing, traveling, working out, and spending time with loved ones. Hana is excited to continue growing and learning with The Little School at Duke.


Tara is originally from New England and lives in Durham. She graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, which is a program that prepares students to become educators. Tara’s love for children inspired her studies in Early Childhood Education. She has worked as a teacher’s aid and substitute teacher for children ranging from the preschool to middle school level. She has always been enthusiastic about arts and crafts and today enjoys using art as an educational tool. In her spare time Tara likes to hike in wilderness areas, create art, listen to music, and babysit.
